The Achilles tendon (or calcaneus tendon) is the tissue that connects the calf’s triceps muscle to the calcaneus. During contraction, this muscle pulls the tendon, thanks to which we can climb on our fingers, play sports or walk properly. It is the largest tendon in our body. It is 15 cm long on average and up to 2.5 cm in diameter in cross section. It’s structure resembles the structure of the „hawser”. This means that it is made of four bundles that twist and cross. Such a twist gives the tendon high strength. It carries up to 3.9 times body weight when walking and up to 7.7 times body weight when running. Unfortunately, such a structure also affects injuries, which are sometimes difficult to treat and convalescence takes a long time. The injury usually occurs 2-6 cm above the calcaneal tuber, where the tendon is thinnest and poorly supplied with blood.

A very important aspect of preventing injury to the foot is its good stabilization. Nature has given us active (muscles) and passive (ligaments) stabilization. The technology also offers the proper footwear. Stable footwear is one in which we feel comfortable and our heel does not move. Usually these are shoes with a wider sole and a higher tying/lacing system.

Moreover, an important element of a good/healthy footwear is a flexible sole. It provides the closest possible natural gait cycle. It stimulates both the muscles and joints to work, not leading to „laziness of the foot”. Remember, a well-cared foot is a solid foundation for the whole body.
